This is definitely one to put on your game shelf and perhaps one my favorite games ever. Square Hero is amazing!

Bioshock: The YouTube Movie

I have long been a fan of the BioShock series. The storyline in particular is what i quickly became fascinated with and the amazing special effects only added to the suspense, mystery and dark atmosphere which, when brought together, made for an incredibly captivating video game.

One of the drawbacks of playing video games, however, is that they can easily span over 70+ hours and there’s no easy way to replay all the cutscenes and relive the story without starting the game all over again.

Luckily, i happened to have come across a rather dedicated fan who went to the trouble of putting together a tribute video which combines the BioShock universe into one easy to follow and compelling video.

This is a fantastic piece of craftsmanship and is definitely something I’ll be watching again.

5 programs for making your own games

Many people want to make their own games but have no clue where to start. There are many programs out there and going through them all takes a lot of time and effort so I’ve narrowed it down to 5 game creators that i think are the best ones.

Game Maker (Windows and Mac)

Game Maker is by far one of the best i’ve encountered for making simple or complicated games. Complete with drag and drop interface and it’s own programming language (GML). Game Maker is perfect for both beginners and experts who want to make their own games. For those wishing to learn GML, a detailed video tutorial series by Wizirdi will explain everything about the coding language of Game Maker and will have you making your own game in no time.

RPG Maker VX (Windows and Mac (via Wineskin))

RPG Maker VX is an amazing tool for creating your own Role Playing Games. The program comes complete with Tilesets and Characters with which you can make your game come to life. There are many options for developing characters and monsters due to the programs ex curve and there are pre defined classes you can set for your hero, such as, mage, warrior, priest etc.

RPG Maker VX is available primarily on Windows. You can play it on a mac using Wineskin Winery, however, there are problems programing the sound. If you’re running boot camp, parallels or VMware Fusion you shouldn’t have a problem with the program.

A new version of RPG Maker (RPG Maker VX Ace) has just come out and combines all the amazing features of RPG Maker VX with the ability to create your own custom characters from within the application which is not available with RPG Maker VX.

Game Salad (Windows and Mac)

Game Salad is an application that lets you create games for both computers and ios devices. You can choose from a variety of templates or just start from scratch. By creating scenes and filling them with actors you can create fun, exciting games and then publish them to either the app store or your portfolio on the Game Salad website so that others can play your game.

Sploder (Online)

Sploder is an online game maker where you can use the interface to build a variety of games and then publish them to the site to be played by others. You can also cast your vote for your favorite games and share with others what you’re playing or you can enter the weekly game contest and prove once and for all that your game is the best one out there.

Unity 3D (Windows and Mac)

Unity 3D is a powerful game creator that’s capable of helping you make games that are suitable for just about every platform from desktop to ios and andriod to ps3. I’d say that Unity is more suited to people who have had experience creating games before, however, even new game makers should take a look at this program to see all the amazing features it offers. Using the Unity editor you can make games of the best quality for instant publication.

There are many game programs out there and it’s hard to list them all but these are some of my favorites for making and playing games. If you feel a certain game creator has been unfairly left out of the list or wish to say what your favorite game creator is, feel free to hit up the comments section and let us know. No doubt there are a number of other great programs out there that just need to be found!

The Runespan

A week ago, Runescape announced the release of a fun new way to train runecrafting - The Runespan.

After testing it out i can say with absolute certainty that this was an excellent idea. The Runespan provides a fun, exciting new way to train runecrafting that vastly tops the previous run to bank, to alter, to bank, to alter approach that was required to train the skill.

Complete with Distractions and Diversions minigames, The Runespan has plenty to offer the weary traveler who is tired of runecrafting the old fashioned way. Located in an alternate plain that is accessible via The Runecrafting Guild. The Runespan is open to all players of all levels. Simply speak to Wizard Finix next to the portal to learn all about the new addition to Runescape.

While The Runespan is an excellent source of XP for players, the downside is that you don’t get to keep the runes you’ve crafted once you leave. Instead, they are traded for points that you can spend in Wizard Finix’s shop to gain rewards such as a Wicked Hood, Cape or Staffs.

Dino Shift

As promised we have another walkthrough for you!

Dino Shift. A very bright and colourful puzzle-platform game by Big Dino!

Help Murphy the Dino collect gummy blocks on the way to the exit of each level.

I found that the cartoon style graphics combined with the bright colours definitely kept me engaged throughout the game.

Papa Louie - When Pizza's Attack

“The adventure that started it all! While Papa Louie was hosting a party at Papa’s Pizzeria, the Infamous Onion Ring infiltrated all the orders. Delicious pizzas were transformed into gooey Pizza Monsters that kidnapped all of Papa Louie’s customers, teleporting them to a far off lands. Armed with his trusty pizza paddle and loads of Pepper Bombs, Papa Louie must rescue all his loyal customers and put an end to the Infamous Onion Ring.”

I found this game to be very engaging and had a lot of fun playing it. Similar to a Mario game in structure, this side-scrolling platform/ adventure game is quite fun and addictive. As a fan of the Papa franchise games by Flipline Studios, i couldn’t believe it took me this long to find the game.

With nice graphics and an interesting plot line this game will definitely be on my shelf.

Awhile ago i told you about a game called WeTopia on Facebook. It’s an addictive community building game where you’re accomplishments don’t just level up your character but help out real people in the real world by providing hot meals, clean drinking water and much more.

You can add virtual buildings, shops, houses and crops with the in-game currency (goodwill) to grow your WeTopia and collect another form of currency (joy) to give to nonprofit organisations like Save the Children and Action for Healthy Kids which enables these organisations to help out in the real world.

This brilliant game was created by Sojo Studios as a way for people to get involved in philanthropy and has received substantial support from the media as well as celebrities like pop star Justin Bieber and day time talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres.

I encourage you all to play the game and join thousands of people in creating a difference. For more information on the game visit their YouTube Channel to see first hand all the good this new initiative is doing for a brighter world.
